Wool Manipulation and Maquette Heart

Posted: 27/11/15

I created wool constructs by winding wool around a frame lined with nails and hardening it with glue. I used the colours red and blue to represent the blood vessels and veins that are found in both human and animal bodies to symbolise that we are made from the same organic matter. I created a maquette heart for my final outcome using papier mache, I then cut it in half and painted it. On one side I painted an anatomical heart and on the other anatomical vessels with money stuffed inside. This is the basis for my final outcome, the fact that animals for the meat and fur industry as well as many other aspects such as illegal dog and bull fighting, are bred in order to line the pockets of humans. The animal is a money maker that will be bred, fed and killed for money as well as tortured inbetween. I used premade flexible wool constructs and wrapped them around the maquette to show the pressure put on animals to live up to their purpose. From the day they are born, they are chained up and restricted to farms and factories or public humiliation until the day they are killed.
