With strong obsession in the materiality of the most mundane things, this “painting” is made through treating, arranging, and layering of paper. Each slice of paper is meticulously manipulated with fire and water, two opposite forces in nature. The work itself is “painted” by the harmonisation of the two natural elements, and highlights the coexistence between extreme simplicity and obsessiveness.

Repetition dominates the process of making these pieces: the repetition of dripping water drops onto paper, burning the paper with fire, watching the fire tracing the water marks, and seeing the water evaporating into the air.

The paper, collectively layered onto a surface, evolves into a new life, presenting themselves as a combination of the chaotic burn marks and the obsessive control of the artist – a metaphor for the rawness of nature and the orderliness of the mind, whilst these two qualities co-exist.
