  • The judging panel and the value of prizes

    Francesca Gavin is the Visual Arts Editor for Dazed & Confused magazine and an author and curator. She helped to create the prize in 2010 and was on the judging panel again this year. Hear Francesca talk about why the Award was created and what the judges were looking for. She also talks about the importance of prizes and why applying for them is an intelligent thing to do as an emerging artist.

  • The winner and the benefit

    Peter Ainsworth is a photo-based artist and was the winner of the inaugural Converse/Dazed Emerging Artist Award in 2010. Reflecting on life post-prize, Peter talks about what motivated him to apply and about the anthropomorphic plants that won him the award. He also talks about the importance of prizes like the Dazed Emerging Artist Award as a means for profile building and how participating has since become a stepping stone to international projects. He also has some sensible advice about applications.
